iTunes - Album is a compilation


going through , tagging music in itunes 12.x, difference between check-box "album compilation of songs various artists" vs entering words "various artists" in album artists box.

wouldn't accomplish same thing ? difference?
 

the album artist field names. entering 'various artists' here, creating album artist various artists. check box compilation flag identifying album that. suppose itunes interpret 'various artists' in same way suggest , create 'compilation album' flag automatically in metadata, doesn't.
fill in artist , album artist same information, albums song might have different or additional singer, use artist field information, , album artist 'headline' artist.
