Mid 2011 iMac: Repair or Replace?


ok. have 21.5" mid 2011 imac bought new in 2012 , couple of problems have shown recently.
1 of fans (i suspect cpu) intermittently comes on @ full speed , stays there ages (smc reset nothing , no heavy applications running). downloaded istat shows temps normal , other fan speeds ok cpu fan @ 0rpm when happens returns showing 1200rpm+ when slows down.
other issue there rattling/grinding noise coming (possibly hdd fan) starting irritate me.

imac no longer under warranty , didn't purchase applecare (being tight!).

question worth repairing considering potential costs? (no idea apple charge). nearest apple store on 60 miles away (so little drive not fussed) , nearest reseller 20 miles charge £50 diagnostics!

or

potentially worth replacing 21.5" (one above base) given potential repair costs , 'future proof' myself. won't lie, idea of having newer features such handoff , fusion drive improve speeds part of me wonders if i'm calling day little on current mac. still runs fine otherwise although takes while boot, other works fine.

still have mba 13" i'm selling due lack of use no longer have need it.

having problems ip6+ not going @ moment!

opinions appreciated , welcome.
 

here in states people asking $600 , machine in condition, i'd think twice recycling it. wouldn't pay it, people asking it. me, apple supports these things 8 years, it's halfway through it's life. assuming straight depreciation, yes worth $600, first 4 years years. if don't want go through risk of fixing it, sell parts. if fix it, you've got several years left , might cheap repair. think ssd while thing opened , might feel better deal. can 500 gb 60% of apple charges fusion drive.

[SOLVED] SFOTT usb key not bootable Mavericks
