ok have mid-2012 15" retina mbp, 1 of first models retina display. have older 13" air using school. not need 2 laptops i'm looking sell them both , pick 1 machine meet of needs.
use laptops basic school use including web browsing, word processing, , other basic applications. have big music , movie collection it's stored on external hard drives i'd need access/manage these files. not game @ on laptops i've been getting photography i'd ability edit photos taken on dslr. won't video editing i'd option beginner stuff on imovie. last thing use rmbp music recording/production, logic pro. according apple, programs i'm looking run require minimum of 4gb of ram i'm worried dual-core i5.
i've been carrying 13" air school because 15" rmbp bulky. 13" size fact there's no quad-core i7 option kind of scares me. old 2012 15"rmbp has 2.3 i7 quad-core, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, , geforce 650m/intel hd 4000.
2015 13" rmbp meet needs? , feel of i'm concerned dual-core i5 might sluggish when running multiple apps.
share experience or feedback??
i think you're underestimating how powerful 13" rmbp chips , i'd argue quad core overkill workload. 13" rmbp more meets needs. larger ssd if you're interested in upgrading base model , save time spent dragging , other drives.

i use 2 things safari: fastscripts cmd-# shortcuts tabs in safari firefox/chrome (which not necessary in el capitan, thankfully), , safari keyword search keyword searching in bar (e.g., "wp spokane" searches wikipedia article spokane , goes if/when possible). latter: safari keyword search abandonware. creator has nothing on home page nor github in years. there little bug where, inexplicably, dumps saved keywords, requiring manual reimports. i've tried omnikey , don't based on how can't handle encoding of spaces in search strings, how stores saved entries. keysearch: don't know how handles spaces in searches. may abandonware, has not had major update since updated safari 6 years ago. glims: don't know if still around. overkill anyway. have other suggestions on minimalist, still-supported utility keyword searching in address bar? nice able "wp" , "i" , "a" wikipedia / google image / ama...
