Is it useless to have iCloud Photo Lib. enabled on my phone and not on my mac?

.

not useless. icloud photo library gives more flexibility ios backups/image access previous iteration.

1) unlike conventional ios icloud or itunes backup, in case iphone/ipad becomes useless (and photos hadn't been exported device), photos accessible without having restore backup iphone/ipad. sign icloud.com access , download them.

2) use of "optimized storage" option on ios devices means you'll able free-up storage space on devices.

3) if typically save photos 1 ios device on another, may save additional space, don't have keep full-resolution versions of image on either device.

can still use photo stream automatically transfer images computer- perhaps reason #1 may not important. utility of #2 , #3 questionable, depending on how things.

have own hybrid approach. i'm using icloud photo library , photos on mac ios ios photography. i'm continuing download images aperture well, via photo stream, , i'm continuing import images "good" camera aperture, rather photos. when (and i'm optimist, it's "when" rather "if")... when photos has "missing" features want, i'll merge icloud - i've wanted server-based, concurrent-access photo library long time.
