MacBook Pro "13 trouble w/ logging on

i have 6 year old macbook pro "13 , have been having trouble logging on week now. know laptop on last leg need access important files before move on new macbook pro.

whenever start computer go apple logo , wheel continue spin endlessly until turn off.

when try boot safe mode, loading bar go halfway until disappears , goes endless spinning wheel.

have been searching installation disk , i'm not sure if can find it. if did find able access it?

have idea should try puppy log on? i'm not sure if has battery fried 6 months ago , had replace it. replacement battery has pretty fried , can run laptop around 20 minutes @ full power while unplugged.

appreciate help!

i'd pursue accessing files directly removing drive or using target disk mode on "older" mac.
