format passport


so bought passport ultra 1tb 3.0/2.0 backup current hard drive , want make sure format correct settings can use program mac.

08' late macbook , if recall can use time machine entire hd correct? act bootable hd or storage?

also, setting format can use time machine or program backing up? in windows format.
 

start disk utility , go erase tab , select new drive. select mac os extended (journaled) format , name drive whatever want. apply settings clicking erase format drive.

tm backup entire drive , can boot tm disk restore new drive example. cannot boot tm backup drive , run computer way. can boot restore.
