Boot Problems with Yosemite

hello,

got latest version of yosemite running on 2008 imac. not ideal chugs along okay. kids use mainly.

had problems can't seem solve , need advice , with.

computer allegedly had healthy shut down (not forced or plug pulled out of wall) , next time boot attempt made, the progress bar make 40% of way go grey screen cursor visible. it stuck , not here on.

@ point did sorts:
  • recovery mode disk utility, permissions , disk repair. came fine. did fsck multiple times in single user mode after this.
  • tried boot safe mode; it'd stuck @ 40% , nothing.
  • cleared nvram
  • boot recovery, turn off wireless, restart unit
no luck. nothing worked. tried verbose boot, monitored happening. let me paraphrase of errors in no particular order:
  • disk0s2 warning; diskarbs not working, no write appearing
  • complaints bootplaylist directory not existing, install_cleanup. think directories stated /var/db/
  • keeps saying needs rebuild apple kext kernal or cache, think shows //system/library/****** (yes, 2 //)
  • makes exception called jmicronata kext
i deleted bunch of files in single-user mode. bootplaylist / kext, boot cache directory. ran check of update_dyld_share_cache , didn't exist, , refused create it. don't know means. disk verified again, tried boot. didn't help.

have bootcamp partition created pre-yosemite. booted (xp) , backed files os x partition, went recovery , reinstalled os x (not clean install, patching over).

after done booted fine, logged in , seemed clean. going tweak startup services settings , turn off filevault, forgot. when restarted computer, new issue happened , haven't been able solve it.

gets 40%, white spinning loading bar appears on progress bar. apple logo / progress bar disappear second before happens. goes black screen. cursor appears few seconds, followed white spinner appearing again, , cursor disappearing. on loop, left 30 minutes turned off. ran fsck again, tried clearing nvram again, restarted few times. it's stuck there.

advice next? starting suspect wrong on hardware side, although seemed in bootcamp xp partition.

in advance.

tried again reinstall, , changed settings (mainly startup services) see if that'd help. no luck.

backed files, erased, , installed clean. issue fixed , old thing runs smoother now, don't think it's ever had clean install since came shipped leopard.

unsure of cause of failure; corrupt boot process.

if has had similar issue , can share solution doesn't involve clean install, please share in case else needs help.
