Friendly warning to people trying El Capitan

(tl;dr @ bottom)

today tried revert public beta yosemite on 2015 15" rmbp, 1 in signature.

did using time machine use backups. made critical error, did not stop el capitan backing same time machine backup had previous backups of yosemite on.

when attempted restore yosemite today using backups did not work correctly. shows me many different backups going normal days you'd expect , lists os x versions on of them el capitan (the newest backups) , yosemite (the older ones).

naturally selected yosemite entries because el capitan had backed same time machine volume. had altered of file indexes, making incompatible yosemite.

when restored , logged in, 50% of files not present. itunes library, documents, many folders, application settings etc gone.

restored 2 more times, once recovery mode (cmd+r on bootup) , once migration assistant , both resulted in same problem.

tried open time machine in yosemite using normal time machine interface recover manually yosemite unable read of backup entries in time machine, format not compatible.

rebooted recovery mode , restored el capitan , files present originally. moral of story, don't stupid me , allow beta of el capitan mess yosemite backups, start new backup instead.

tl;dr: el capitan changed time machine format making reversion yosemite impossible without file loss. start new backup el capitan while testing instead of using previous time machine backup volume.

im in pb1 on mbp 13" 2015 , no major bugs far. fast compare yosemite beta before. had dedicated xternal hardrive time machine backup , never ever use el capitan not automatically alter yosemite backup.
