having trouble getting mba (13" 2014) boot. looking little reassurance not hard drive failure, because there's important info has not been backed (i know, know...)
noticed system issues such sluggishness, failure load webpages , internet connectivity. mba automatically rebooted due system updates, not boot - progress bar stops in middle, , after 5 minutes, shut off.
have tried booting fresh osx install on external drive, , computer repeatedly boot , shut off, never loading past login screen.
worried information on ssd, because have been unable boot drive in target disk mode using other mac. when authenticate drive credentials, nothing happens , drive not mounted on desktop.
have run disk utility , verified/repaired drive, , saying drive ok - gives me hope. fsck says drive ok.
system not start in safe mode. diagnostic giving error code ppm002 - related system memory (ram?) issue?
hardware still under 1-yr warranty - planning on genius bar visit can. insight in meantime great!
it sounds can boot recovery partition (or internet recovery) if your'e able run disk utility.
being case, have access command line.
can use command line tools (tar or zip) archive files want. can use ftp upload them server somewhere.
(you might able mount external disk , copy files there i've never done that, i've used ftp before.)
can less stressed out data loss when genius bar...

i use 2 things safari: fastscripts cmd-# shortcuts tabs in safari firefox/chrome (which not necessary in el capitan, thankfully), , safari keyword search keyword searching in bar (e.g., "wp spokane" searches wikipedia article spokane , goes if/when possible). latter: safari keyword search abandonware. creator has nothing on home page nor github in years. there little bug where, inexplicably, dumps saved keywords, requiring manual reimports. i've tried omnikey , don't based on how can't handle encoding of spaces in search strings, how stores saved entries. keysearch: don't know how handles spaces in searches. may abandonware, has not had major update since updated safari 6 years ago. glims: don't know if still around. overkill anyway. have other suggestions on minimalist, still-supported utility keyword searching in address bar? nice able "wp" , "i" , "a" wikipedia / google image / ama...
