i need new monitor , don´t think buying new 1600p/1440p monitor great deal right now. hate day 1 since it´s not want. can´t afford both new mac , new 4k-ish monitor right nice hear have tried connect 2012 mini 4k-ish screen , if worked _at all_.

2012 mac mini officially don't support above 2560*1600 according :apple:. what´s officially supported , works not same. :)

have tried?

4096*2160
3880*2160
3440*1440

better in windows?

i have 2 dell p2715q 4k displays on desk, connect late-2013 rmbp via quality dp 1.2 2160p mdp>dp cables. 1 of displays connected 2012 i7/16gb mini server via quality dp 1.2 2160p mdp>mdp cable. use either startech or lindy cables.

mini, best readable maximum resolution see 2560x1440 or 1440x2560, sufficient needs mini. both of displays on arms have more freedom of movement them, including pivoting. hdmi cable or low-end mdp cable, best i'd seen hd - 1920x1080. of course, maxed-out ram key - less ram fewer pixels!

use switchresx, allows creation of custom resolutions, haven't tried out on mini. yet.

i'm happy displays, , i'd buy them again
