Finally got to checkout the rMB and rMBP 13" in person

as has never had mac before, have iphone, ipad , apple watch - able local best buy , check out rmb , new 13" rmbp i've been quite interested in. , out of curiosity checked out surface pro 3 indicator of surface pro 4 might like. have pretty high-end gaming pc built myself, running windows 8.1 , i'm looking forward seeing how windows 10 improves things on pc side.

purpose of me wanting portable laptop motorcycle travelling, vacation trips , being able run real programs ipad can't - such garmin basecamp on road gps updates. hoping apple's upcoming ipad pro hybrid ios/os x device able run os x programs - would've been perfect travelling device me think. don't see happening anytime soon, portable laptop search on , want give os x try. evaluation two-fold me - checking out new mac laptops, , seeing how able navigate around os x never having mac before. wife looking new computer, , wanted see if she'd able adapt os x easily.

first check out new 13" rmbp. nice machine, notice weight when pick up. quite surprised see how similar os x compared windows, , able around , basics quite nicely! , think prefer os x ui compared windows. start checking out apps - mail, maps, app store, photos, imovie , safari. first tried mail, , when clicked got couple quick bounces , started right up. know people talking when refer apps bouncing. closed mail , reopened it, no bounce time. , continue other apps checking them out. maps pretty quick, took fraction of second redraw when moved around map, fast thought. weight of rmbp still more wanted deal with.

test of rmb next - had gold , space gray sitting right next each other, , both 1.1ghz core m versions. have admit preference gold, liked space gray well. pick up. , though rmbp 1.5 lbs heavier, notice how light rmb - size weight perfect travelling needs. first open mail, , 3 bounces before opens - 1 bounce more rmbp gave me. close mail , open again - no more bounces rmbp. think must caching os doing. check out other apps well, in particular maps - want see how cpu/gpu handles redraws. not bad @ really, tad behind rmbp in speed not much.

next test keyboard i've heard +s , -s it. opened notes , started typing whatever felt like. have liked it, , me coming pc keyboard lots of travel. preferred - had lightly tap keys register, , click not loud, there , confirmed key press. liked using new trackpad - better i've used on windows laptops sure.

so... come away ready order new gold 1.3ghz rmb - liked much. performance seemed i'd using for. else , pc there, @ least now. knows, maybe after spending more time os x, imac might in (and wife's) future. sorry long-winded post, felt needed explain reasoning else might in same situation.

 

ive been thinking ditching 15" rmbp maxed out rmb .. have imac , thing use laptop office / surfing web / email , maybe youtube .. still trying make mind though
