iOS 8 vs OS X for "securing" files?

*i posted in os x forum, predicted, nobody posts in forum ha!

if 1 keep important files on either macbook pro or iphone 6, both latest software updates. 1 more "secure" solution other? secure referring whether has access device can data.

under assumption os x powered mbp can use filevault encrypt data. also, assuming iphone more lost or stolen, may less secure in sense.

true? or both relatively same?

realize may totally redundant question 1 of colleagues asking me , myself curious know mr thinks! tried searching web , not find answer.

if use (strong) password on iphone data encrypted. remember month or 2 ago fuss fbi etc making because couldn't locked iphones?
