clarification on OSX recovery


my friends father bought 13 mbp few months ago. has not used since , has forgotten os x password. there hidden recovery drive on machine when try restart machine , reload os x not use recovery partition, starts downloading os instead. normal? ask because internet slow here , requiring 30 hours download recovery installation. maching use recovery partition i'm not clear on how works.

there way can force recover partition or download required?

the recovery partition contains limited set of tools try , recover system. if need re-install operating system itself, yes, download required.

[SOLVED] SFOTT usb key not bootable Mavericks
