so @ moment have 2009 20'' imac - 2.66ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, 7200rpm hdd. haven't tried doing it, surfing web, , occasional adobe lightroom editing(sluggish least). have custom built pc i'm using sony vegas pro 13 / 1080p video, photoshop cs6, adobe after effects, lightroom, want switch mac main machine, , spend around $600-800.
2009 imac have yosemite, , beachballs between switching apps, or if many things running @ 1 time. when watching 1080p video on youtube, becomes real choppy on graphic intensive websites tumblr , such.
here question. i'm debating on myself between either 2011 imac 21.5'' or 2012 imac 21.5'' replace 2009 imac , become main machine.
- the 2011 imac 21.5'' has upgradability (screen held magnets), , core i5, 2012, , i'll able put ssd, , upgrade ram cheaper paying premium.
- the 2012 imac 21.5'' has no upgradability, or not easily, , can't stand fact apple puts 5200rpm hard drives in them, imagine incredibility slow. also, used 1 8gb of ram you'll have pay extra, , no room future upgrading.
which 1 should get? want able upgrade some, , want last @ least 3 4 years. 2012 pretty it's slim looks , usb 3.0, practical use? or should upgrade 2009 imac ssd (i know has sataii) , 8gb of ram?
2gb of ram? grief. when retired imac 9,1 few months ago had full 8 gb, upgraded removing access panel. wasn't choppy, wasn't fast.
never upgraded ssd.
suppose upgrading @ least 4 gb , preferably 8 gb (for photoshop , after effects) eats small budget newer machine.
if new machine has @ least sandy bridge cpu, you'll able use quicksync , speed video encodes.
usb 3.0 useful-- have external drives, don't you?
