Why does iMovie shrink and remove the top/bottom when exporting video on iPhone?


i have iphone 5s ios 8.4. recorded video using built-in camera app. how built-in photos app shows video:

opened imovie app (version 2.1.2), created new project, imported video, did not editing, , exported video using "save video" option (exported 1080p). when went built-in photos app, how showed exported video:

why has exported video been shrunk, , had top , bottom cropped off? instead of being tall rectangular video original was, exported video square lot of black space around it.
 

short answer - looks shot video in portrait format iphone held vertically. imovie expects video landscape format hence cropping. try again iphone held horizontally.

[SOLVED] SFOTT usb key not bootable Mavericks
