Are these decent upgrade parts for my 2010 13"?


hi all. had thread going pros , cons of upgrading mid 2010 mbp 13" , got lot of advice on there. kinda died out though , i've figured out parts think i'm going , wanted run them everybody. opted 120gb ssd because apps folder 10gb (on note, why people suggest putting apps on ssd?)

wasn't sure batteries people 1 seems popular enough? also, need buy mount ssd in obtibay?

i have no comment on battery third party ones have ever bought went because crap. can never go wrong crucial memory, , 8gb take care of while. 120gb, imo, isn't enough ssd, thats because video editing , need have plenty scratch space. samsung ssds pretty good, see deals crucial has on mx100 ssds. not more , i'm more apt trust crucial since have been making memory chips decades.

why people put app folder on ssd, because in day ssds expensive hell (i paid $300-$400 first 128gb ssd apple in 2011). trick create symbolic link home folder , store on spinning drive connected system. since ssds cheaper were, best put data on them. less susceptible damage hdds , faster. go mac , see how storage using on hdd in total , buy ssd accordingly.

typically, recommend putting ssd in main hdd space next battery speed, wouldn't make difference in machine since both ports sata ii. typically recommend , buy owc data doubler. have used them in multiple machines , have yet have 1 fail on me. includes hardware , instructions need. click here view on owc's website.

lastly, check out b&h photo's pricing. typically same or cheaper amazon, have free shipping , don't charge tax of (the exception new york state last checked).

Which Macbook Pro to Get?

i'm getting first mac laptop, work i'll heavily use personally. work exclusively office 365 apps, web, , basic network stuff ssh. personal use, use photoshop , scrivener, , light video editing (family stuff). use laptop portable media player when traveling. may add games, turn-based 4x games (civilization, etc.) not super graphic-intense stuff. should add have powerful desktop tons of storage already, not system. have hard, non-negotiable budget of $2500 must include applecare ($249 13", $349 15"). i'm considering 2 configs: 13" macbook pro w/3.1ghz dual core i5, 16gb ram, 512gb flash ($2448 w/ac) or 15" macbook pro w/2.5ghz quad core i7, 16gb ram, 256gb flash ($2488 w/ac) comes down 15" having faster procs less storage, while 13" has more storage slower procs. i'm leaning 15" assumption 256gb ought enough , can plug in thunderbolt add-on hard drive...right? there ways more storage ,...
