USB Backup

greetings all,
owner , user (all of 23 hours) of macbook air, having used windows many years. final straw 2 days ago when advised had 204 updates done - system had been updated couple of days before.

enough of complaints - have question.

morning did backup of mba external usb hdd. worked fine , able @ backup , seems okay.

modem/router set @ 1 end of house (that's phone line is) , have asus rtn10u setup ap have computer (murphy's law - @ other end of house) is.

rtn10u has usb port external devices , have usb hdd connected via port.

appreciate advice whether or not can done , if so, how? note on high learning curve on mac's.

in advance info.

when checked @ asus web site, usb port on rtn10u router appears use print server, , nothing there suggests usb port can used storage device. wireless routers, particularly @ low end, might have usb ports, might not support storage device on usb port. printer server setup more common.
router older model, , has been available more 4 years. may time replacement better supports storage needs (and support higher speed wireless ac card new mbair uses.)
