Bootcamp Guide for x86

so got x86 macbook, , needed install windows on it. long story short, process of installing windows hassle. want prevent others having same experience had , decided make guide.

i'll start basic things need know. there difference between 64bit , 32bit, can't install 64bit os on 32bit processor , due processors architecture. need use dvds or cds,no flash drives, non-negotiable well.

basics out of way, let's begin.

need dvd 32bit version of windows installing, , must not contain 64bit versions of windows otherwise recieve "select cd-rom boot type" error. there ways of making disc boot if there 32bit , 64bit versions of windows did not have windows laptop use process.

also, recommend using windows 7 since apple supports that. tried windows xp , not wifi work atheros 9280 card, did wifi card detect signals connecting result in bsod. windows vista gave me "cannot install on gpt disk" error , not go further, tried running xp disk , formatting in ntfs still no luck. assuming windows 8 supported, have not tried it. windows 10 technical preview wouldn't work me , installation loop.

recommend using bootcamp this, since user friendly , creates partitions. since snow leopard max os 32bit processors, bootcamp 3 got. when running bootcamp 3, must choose option "i have disk" instead of "download bootcamp drivers" since not download due glitch on apple's side. if have snow leopard disc, should fine since contains drivers. if not have snow leopard disc, can 1 on apple's site $19.99.

if there iso need process, can burn through disc utility. know people have 32bit-only version of windows in iso format. open disk utility, , insert disc. click burn , find iso burn. burning iso take 10-20 minutes depending on size. 4gb iso took me on 20 minutes.

if using bootcamp, recieve "insert disc" , once mac should boot disc automatically. if not using bootcamp, need hold down alt key disc inserted , recieve options on boot. if insert disk after pressing alt, not show , need reboot , press alt again.

windows setup should start fine. have choose partition bootcamp 1 if used bootcamp or other name if did not use bootcamp.

let windows install run , expand files takes 20 minutes. once finishes, need insert snow leopard disc , install bootcamp drivers , restart. that's it, hope guide helpful , worthy of sticky people needing install windows on x86 macs.
