Is it still worth it to pursue an I.T. career? I'm serious


i'll turning 35 next year. i've been steady in work. not in i.t. field. wish tell forum differently. took different paths lead nowhere. digress. been passionate technology since 15 years old.

want pursue career has great job stability , it. i.t. career have strong feeling replaced younger guy time i'm in 50's or 60's. new boss younger guy , replace entire team friends. out of work , hard finding company hire me when i'm 62 (an example).
constant pace technology changes. it's fast. that's keeps interesting me. @ same time constant need improve , study more tests.

in case wondering semi-introvert. socializing @ parties, barbecues, weddings etc. prefer working myself. i've learned on years. immature , annoying co-workers i've had on years. again digress.

understand learning trade highly praised people. low cost learn , wages. i'm not manual labor/work hands kind of guy. when temp worker long time ago hated production work. i'm pretty sure hate have trade job. no offense people working trade jobs out there.

think love own boss 1 day. having job flexibility. meaning can take day off want or work longer hours day. importantly want there 2 year old son growing up. want provide him. want have roof on our heads son , i.

have been looking getting accounting degree western governors university. still not sure want pursue accounting degree. not sure if suit me.

time goes feel i'm running out of time , options. believe me if go in time change lot of things better. don't have luxury.

if find job pay (i think pay $50,000 year , above), work myself , have job stability. happy camper! don't think job exists.

hope friendly forum can offer advice.

 

in order compete, need continually expand knowledge. you'll need flexible , have initiative. in late 30s, white hat hacker/cybersecurity consultant large firm. have no degree, have bunch of certifications, , have been in since late 90s.

start on degree can close gap before becomes concern.

there's more free ones out there too. people needed, lower level work such administration, you'll competing lots of people. figure out you're interested in, , find aspect of can elevate higher bulk of competition. had gotten biometric security , identity management @ 1 point. it's never-ending cycle of learning if want stay ahead of pack.
