hi,
being microsoft .net developer don't have think of os use still last 3 notebooks have been macbook pros running windows, because there wasn't real alternative. year though decided "real pc" 4 pc laptops later i've yet again came conclusion best pc laptop macbook pro 15" 2015.
normally, version maxed out no matter costs year i'm having doubts, choice of gpu (graphics card). if gpu switching had worked fine under windows have been no brainer of know doesn't. have me thinking of if should 1 without amd gpu instead better battery times , hear opinions on skipping amd version if favor of non amd version. used mobile workstation don't plan gaming on it, gpu intensive stuff movies , light photoshopping.
now, few questions:
whats overall opinion on skipping amd version needs , go non-amd (intel iris pro version)?
what chances of getting windows installation supports gpu switching? know there different "hacks" out there supposed solve this, still seems kind of shaky (no offence developers)?
i noticed there "gpu swtiching utility" available on github (could have been codeplex also) said able support gpu switching though require restart each time. fine me if worked. have used 1 (or consider trying) , can give on opinion of how works?
will built in intel iris pro gpu able handle external 4k monitor no problem (just office use , movies) on mini-displayport or hdmi?
what chances upcoming windows 10 offer better support gpu switching on macs running windows without need "hacks"? tried using preview versions?
feel free comment on related should have asked for/mentioned haven't
thank you.
1. sounds 13 inch iris fine use case, iris pro great.
2. it's windows there bound software out there this.
3. not used it.
4. yes ease
5. quick ghoogle suggest not not support amd on macs doesn't support amd on anything, @ least not well.
in short igpu should fine uses , dgpu may far more trouble it's worth.

i'm getting first mac laptop, work i'll heavily use personally. work exclusively office 365 apps, web, , basic network stuff ssh. personal use, use photoshop , scrivener, , light video editing (family stuff). use laptop portable media player when traveling. may add games, turn-based 4x games (civilization, etc.) not super graphic-intense stuff. should add have powerful desktop tons of storage already, not system. have hard, non-negotiable budget of $2500 must include applecare ($249 13", $349 15"). i'm considering 2 configs: 13" macbook pro w/3.1ghz dual core i5, 16gb ram, 512gb flash ($2448 w/ac) or 15" macbook pro w/2.5ghz quad core i7, 16gb ram, 256gb flash ($2488 w/ac) comes down 15" having faster procs less storage, while 13" has more storage slower procs. i'm leaning 15" assumption 256gb ought enough , can plug in thunderbolt add-on hard drive...right? there ways more storage ,...
