hi- i've got '07 17" 2.4ghz macbook pro core2duo 4g ram os 10.8.5
time now, i've been getting spinning wheels time. @ first blamed on firefox , me having ton of tabs open time.
after switching browsers , cutting down on number of tabs let myself have open, still got spinners....
noticed when ran 'applejack' got looks error message, , couldnt run 'validate prefs' or clear 'cache files' on user directory. typed in 'mikemac' , thing. doesnt recognize , shows bunch of [501] , 1 [502]
showed when couldn't fix permissions...
"the domain/default pair of (system/library/launchdaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager. progaramarguments) not exist
/var/root/library/scripts/applejack.sh: line 1887: pa: readonly variable
unable discover location of virtual memory directories! <-yellow text
mke sure $swapdir declared in standard way. temporary workaround, please enter correct vm directory location @ prompt. or jut hit return accept default location (/private/var/vm) (enter directory)"
there's couple of other strange error mesages can see when watch boot in verbose mode. lot 'cause find interesting. goes quick, kinda hard catch exactly.
see line- bootcache: boot cache size large (huge 10+ digit number) larger actual size, or that...
don't know if important or not. figure maybe borrow video camera , video record text if need be.
missing $swapdir looks suspicious me, don't have clue really...
have advise me? running os 10.7 when started, , updated 10.8.5 hoping might fix things. didn't....help!
mac mojo ya might send way, i'd appreciate it!

first, try downloading small free utility called "yasu":
http://yasuapp.net
it's no longer actively supported, still works.
believe version need 10.8.5 2.9.1
(download link provided @ page above)
try running yasu.
suggestion check except browser cookies.
yasu either shut down or restart mac when done.
suggest "restart".
see if helps.
if doesn't:
can locate , delete bootcache file?
it's cache, rebuilt through subsequent bootups.
also, try downloading diskwave:
http://diskwave.barthe.ph
it's small, free utility show , size files on drive.
